In Loving Memory
June 12, 1949 – February 12, 2026

Joseph “Joe” J. Kulak, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Gladwin, Michigan, on February 12, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on June 12, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Joseph G. and Dorothy (Cooper) Kulak, Joe was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout his 76 years.
Joe’s early years were spent in Detroit, where he graduated from Chadsey High School in 1967. He was known for his friendly demeanor and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. On May 24, 1968, Joe married the love of his life, Christine “Chris” Zarzecki, who survives him. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children, Joseph J. (Kristina) Jr. and Teresa “Terri” L. (Brian) Pasmanter. Joe was also a proud and doting grandfather to Stephanie A. Kulak.
Joe’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. He retired from Taco Bell after 26 years and 6 months of service as a National Director of Facility Management. His career was distinguished not only by his achievements but also by the countless relationships he built along the way. After retiring, Joe moved to Gladwin, where he continued to serve his community as a member of the Gladwin County Election Board of Canvassers.
Known affectionately by close family as “Chick,” Joe was the heart of his family. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Cagle, John Kulak, and Sharon Taylor. Despite these losses, Joe’s spirit never wavered, and he continued to be a source of strength and comfort to all who knew him.
Joe’s interests were as diverse as his skills. An avid sports fan, he relished the thrill of the game, whether on the golf course or in the stands at various sporting events. His love for travel was fueled by his outgoing nature and his career, which took him and his family across the country, creating a tapestry of memories that they will cherish forever.
Those who knew Joe will remember him as a kind-hearted, generous, and friendly man who could light up a room with his presence. His legacy is one of love, service, and the countless lives he touched with his warm smile and open heart.
Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society or MyMichigan Hospice in his memory.
